That FFmpeg Problem on Vista
Words cannot express how much I *loathe* Vista. Those of you who have followed my blogs back when must recall .
Anyway… this one is like a mosquito buzzing around your head. You try to ignore it, hoping it will go away. Then get annoyed and try to slap it but it fail. Finally, like today, decide you have had enough and bring out the big guns…
… Which ironically is a really simple fix with a program called ffdshow. Download it here.
And voila! Fixed!
I was so excited I forgot to blog about the problem itself.
Basically, if you open a folder with AVI files in it, a Windows message appears saying “COM Surrogate stopped working” and it will keep repeating itself till it produces a window that asks you to close the program. Highly annoying if you’re trying to find a file, transfer them, or open them in a program.
Credit goes to Ramesh from The Windows Club for the solution.
Note: I was missing the last few months because I just gave birth to my second child, a baby girl! She is now 3 months old and I am still getting used to very much less sleep. It’ll probably be a year before I get to start playing WoW again, but hey, the kids might surprise me and start sleeping through the night! That’s optimism for you.
